A Lifetime of Pursuing (Part 3 of 4)- God Remembers You

Jeremiah 2:1-3
Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Go and cry in the hearing of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord:

“I remember you,
The kindness of your youth,
The love of your betrothal,
When you went after Me in the wilderness,
In a land not sown.
3 Israel was holiness to the Lord,
The firstfruits of His increase.
All that devour him will offend;
Disaster will come upon them,” says the Lord.’ ”

Hear how God tenderly calls His people unto Himself, pleading for them to remember how they once pursued Him and were led by Him.  God was good to Israel and they were set apart for Him.  There was no provision that they lacked, no protection that they did not have, no love that they failed to receive from the Holy One.  Israel had fallen away and God was calling them to repent and return back to Him.

Do you remember?
Do you remember when you first accepted Christ as Lord and Savior?  Do you remember the passion, zeal, joy and excitement you had and your willingness to obey?  Do you remember how you were fully devoted to Him and only wanted to please Him?  Do you recall the places the Lord has taken you from?  All the things He has brought you through?  Maybe you made a vow unto the Lord in your day of trouble (Psalm 66NKJV).  Maybe you used to minister unto the Lord, sing praises unto His name, write songs, daily devotions, share the word, dance with all your might like David (2 Samuel 6:14-15 NKJV) or believe like Abraham(Romans 4:6,11,22,24 NKJV).  Maybe you loved the Lord in such a way that your soul longed for Him(Psalms 42 NKJV).  Maybe you used to have a hunger and thirst for God and His word and distraction after distraction came about or someone/something stole your affection away from The One.

“I remember you."

Today, if you know you have drifted away from God and feel a tugging in your heart, know first and foremost it's been God all along wooing you and calling you to come back to Him.  He wants more of you, all of you.  Don't let His call go unanswered.  No matter how long it's been, God's commitment to you through Christ still stands.  Recommit yourself back to God and His ways.  Say "I do" again and rest your head once again on the bosom of Christ.  God's desire has always been and always will be for you to be in close, intimate relation/fellowship with Him.

  • Jeremiah 29:13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
  • Psalm 63:1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
  • Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
  • Psalm 9:10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
  • Psalm 105:4 Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!
  • Psalm 27:4 One thing I have desired of the LordThat will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LordAnd to inquire in His temple.
  • Hebrews11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Pursue God and behold His beauty, not merely settling for what someone has told you but, knowing Him for oneself.  When you read and meditate on the word of God hear the vows He has made to you, all His promises; faithfulness, mercy, grace, compassion, gentleness, friendship, peace, joy, love, goodness, strength, healing, deliverance, power, comfort, wisdom, justice, guidance, salvation through Christ and so much more.  This relationship is not all for naught.  Pursue Him, that is to say seek Him diligently and with all your heart and you will find Him.
