What Do You Hear?
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
The Hebrew word "shema" means to "hear". It implies hearing with the intent on acting upon that which was heard. Hearing and doing go hand and hand.
These words spoken by Moses to the Israelites prior to entering the Promised Land served as a reminder of who God is and His expectations of them as His covenant people. They would be entering into a land where the people worshipped many "gods", whereas they were to be fully committed to and only worship the One True Living God. The way they lived their lives set apart for God would point to God.
As Christians, the way we live our lives points to who our "god" is OR who God, Almighty is. Reading the word is not enough, when the Holy Spirit is nudging us to act upon a particular passage we should do so. God's desire is not only for us to hear Him but, to do what He says.
What do you hear?
James 1:22 NIV Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
