Fear and Tremble
Isaiah 66:1-2 Thus says the Lord:
“Heaven is My throne,
And earth is My footstool.
Where is the house that you will build Me?
And where is the place of My rest?
2 For all those things My hand has made,
And all those things exist,”
Says the Lord.
“But on this one will I look:
On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
And who trembles at My word
Fear of the LORD means we give God great reverence, respect, honor and awe of who He is as well as great reverence for His word. Do you tremble (reverence the word) or scoff at the word of God? Do you feast on it, being nourished by all that it provides or has it become tasteless, dull and boring to you? Do you obey it? While we are not perfect, as we all fall short of God's glory (Romans 3:23), we should indeed be intentional about our relationship with God.
Who do we really fear? Are we fearful of what others say and think? Remember, Proverbs 29:25 teaches that The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. We will do well to examine ourselves and see who and whose words hold the most weight in our lives.
Let's tremble again at God's word and not treat it so casually.
God still looks with favor upon those who authentically worship Him. He's looking at our hearts and how we respond to His word. Authentic worship is bathed in humility, dependence on the Lord, a right view of who God is; the King of Glory, The Great I AM, God Almighty. It's obedience to The King of Kings and aligning our hearts to His will as well as giving reverence to His word. Authentic worship shines brightly in those whose hearts belong to Him, who are genuinely seeking Him and truly want to please Him.
Psalm 111:10 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all who follow his precepts have good understanding.
To him belongs eternal praise.
When we don't fear the LORD our lives will say it even if our mouths will not.
Let's have a healthy, holy fear of the LORD:
- Let's walk humbly before our LORD. (James 4:10) and out of great reverence submit to Him. (John 14:21), (Micah 6:8)
- Let's give God great respect, awe and honor (1 Chron. 29:11, Rev. 5:13)
- Let's see God correctly and see the vastness and greatness of The Great I AM and that He is Holy, Holy, Holy! (Isaiah 6:1-6)
- Let's love God and others as we should (Mark 12:30-31)
- Let's understand the severity of sin and not rush to walk down the paths of evil. (Psalm 1:1)
- Let's stop being defense attorney's for our sins, justifying why we do what we do and instead repent and ask God for a clean heart. (Psalm 51:1- 2 )
- Let's hear and obey God's word. (James 1:22-25)
- Let's change our diet from being all about ourselves to doing the will of the Father. (John 4:34)
- Let's worship God according to His standards not our own (John 4:24)
- Let's seek Him and put our hope and trust in Him even in times of trouble. (Psalm 27)
- Let's love justice and mercy (Micah 6:8)
Let's truly love Him (John 14:21)
Let's truly love and adore our Great God who is clothed with majesty, all power and authority. Who alone is highly exalted above the heavens and the earth. Who loves us with an everlasting love. No one and nothing else is worthy of our worship! Set your affections upon The KING and give Him the glory, honor and praise for who He is. Praise Him for what he has done! No one and nothing else is to ever take His place. Let's fear the LORD and tremble at His word.
1 Chronicles 29: 10 -12
10 Therefore David blessed the Lord before all the assembly; and David said:
“Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever.
11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness,
The power and the glory,
The victory and the majesty;
For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;
Yours is the kingdom, O Lord,
And You are exalted as head over all.
12 Both riches and honor come from You,
And You reign over all.
In Your hand is power and might;
In Your hand it is to make great
And to give strength to all.
It is not God's desire for even one to perish. Jesus is the ONLY way to a relationship with God.
Romans 9:10-13
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
